Translation Tools
Edit cells, use AI, validate work, manage backtranslations, comments, locks, footnotes, and audio in Codex.
Translation Tools
After you import source content, Codex creates target cells or segments for your translation. The translation editor shows source content for reference and editable target cells for your work.
Open Translation Files
Use Navigation from the compass icon to open source and target files. Navigation shows imported files, progress, and actions such as Add Source File, Import Target File, and Export.
Manual Editing
- Open a target file.
- Click a target cell.
- Type or edit the translation.
- Click the checkmark when you are finished editing the cell.
Use "cell" or "segment" for general projects. In scripture projects, cells often correspond to verses or verse ranges.
AI Autocomplete
Codex has two AI autocomplete flows:
| Tool | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Autocomplete with AI | Generate or revise one selected cell. |
| Autocomplete Chapter | Queue AI suggestions for multiple cells in the current chapter or section. |
AI suggestions depend on the project system message, source and target languages, surrounding context, and edits already made in the project.
AI suggestions are drafts. Review, edit, and validate them before treating them as final translation.
Source Tab and Backtranslation
The cell editor includes a Source tab for reference and quality checks. Use the Backtranslation section there to generate a reverse translation with Generate Backtranslation.
Backtranslation helps reviewers see whether the target text communicates the intended meaning. It is not a replacement for human review.
Validation
Validation circles mark text or audio as reviewed. Project coordinators can set required validation counts in Main Menu > Required Validations.
- Text validation requires translated text.
- Audio validation can be tracked independently.
- Projects with multiple reviewers can require more than one validation.
Cell Tools
Depending on the cell type and project state, tools can include:
- Edit history for reviewing previous changes.
- Footnotes for translator notes.
- Child cells for breaking complex content into smaller parts.
- Source editing mode for approved source correction workflows.
- Locked cells to prevent editing, recording, or AI changes.
- Paste as plain text when formatting from copied content should be stripped.
- Similar wording inspection for consistency checks.
Audio Tools
Media and audio projects can include tools to:
- Record audio.
- Play audio.
- Replace or remove recordings.
- Transcribe speech to text when configured.
- Validate audio.
- Use a recording countdown before capture starts.
See Video and Audio Translation for media workflows.
